Our group thinks that segregation is the seperation of one culture from another due to their beliefs or skin color.
Our group thinks that Discrimination is believing that a certain culture is superrior to other cultures or skin color.
Poor whites and all blacks were denied the power to vote because officials did not believe they should have a say in the government.
Blacks were not allowed to serve on Juries or local offices because they were not allowed to have an influence on the State Legislatures.
The term Jim Crow originated in a song performed by Daddy Rice, a white minstrel show entertainer in the 1830s. Rice covered his face with charcoal to resemble a black man, and then sang and danced a routine in caricature of a silly black person. By the 1850s, this Jim Crow character, one of several stereotypical images of black inferiority in the nation's popular culture, was a standard act in the minstrel shows of the day. jim crow laws made itso difficult for black people like Willy Lynch but thats a different story.

WHY DO WE CARE??
We care because blacks want freedom such as whites. Blacks invented alot of the resouces we use today. When your black life is more difficult. Blacks get more and worse consenquences then whites. Blacks get stereotyped as thugs because the way some blacks are. people think all blacks are the same and which there not at all. White people wouldnt accept blacks in sports because of there skin color.Whites didnt care if you was good, if you wasnt white you wouldnt be playing. Nowadays blacks have alot more freedom. People are understanding we are not all thugs and trash. many blacks have affected history tremindously . For example our priesident has Obama has black in him and he won over a white male. history has changed over the years do to the laws created to stop segregation and slavery. There still is racial problems today but we are constantley fixing the problems everyday.

Sidney was a Creole of color, a member of a black community that traced its roots back to the French, Spanish, and Caribbean culture that characterized the city before Louisiana became part of the United States.
One Example of an African American Overcomming the odds. Jackie Robinson overcame the odds of being able to play baseball for the MLB. Robinson became the first African American to play for the MLB. Before breaking the color barrier in 1949 with the Brooklyn Dodgers Jackie played for the Kansas City Monarchs in a Negro league because, the MLB did not allow any blacks in the league. In 1945 the Boston Red Sox held a tryout at Fenway Park for blacks only Robinson and others went only to be laughed at by Team managment. The Brooklyn Dodgers were more serious in scouting the Negro Leagues. The Dodgers made a list of excellent talent and Robinsons name was
at the top of the list. The Dodgers assigned Robinson to Triple-A to play for the Montreal Royals for $600 a month.
In 1947 six days before the beginng of the season the Dodgers called Robinson up to play for the Majors and broke Major League Baseball's Color Barrier.
